Cybersecurity Professionals & FBI Warn of Chinese Cyber Attacks

Written by Jericho Security Contributor | February 5, 2024

The recent warnings from U.S. cyber intelligence chiefs about the increasing threat of Chinese cyberattacks have highlighted the importance of strengthening our cybersecurity defenses. It was the strongest message yet from the mix of officials representing the intelligence community, White House, and federal law enforcement that the U.S. must better prepare itself against Chinese cyber attacks aimed at positioning themselves inside critical U.S. infrastructure and other economic and military systems. “When we let threat actors define our objectives and are simply reactive, we are not advancing our vision for cyberspace; we are living in theirs,” said Harry Cokers, National Cyber Director.

We must stay ahead of the Chinese cyber threats and strengthen our defenses against them to protect our nation's critical infrastructure. Cybersecurity awareness training is a critical component of this defense, which can help prevent attacks by educating employees and citizens about the risks and how to protect themselves.

According to a recent article by Nextgov, leaders from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), NSA, and FBI have warned of Chinese cyber attacks and emphasized the need for cybersecurity awareness training. This training can play a crucial role in creating a more secure environment and reducing the risk of successful attacks. It should cover topics such as identifying phishing attacks, protecting sensitive information, and using strong passwords.

The Massachusetts government has already recognized the importance of cybersecurity awareness training and launched a grant program to provide training to municipal workers. This program is a step in the right direction and should be expanded to include other sectors as well.

Cybersecurity awareness training is critical to preventing potential Chinese cyber threats and defending against real Chinese cyber attacks. Educating ourselves and others about these risks and how to prevent them can create a more secure environment and protect our nation's critical infrastructure.
